Ascension St. Mary's is the regions only 10 bed hospital dedicated to the neuro intensive care unit and 24 bed neuro progressive care unit. Educational opportunities for the neuro nurses include sitting for the Certified Neuro Registered Nurse (CNRN) exam as well as the Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) exam. Funds for these exams in conjunction with FNI come from our annual golf outing that is put on by the neuro nurses every year. Nurses are expected to sit for these exams upon being hired and meeting the qualifications to sit for the exams. Nurses are also expected to attend FNI Grand Rounds that are offered at the organization to help enhance their knowledge and build collaboration with the physician and ancillary teams. Community outreach is a large part of the neuro legacy and multiple functions throughout the year for the community are staffed by the nursing team.
