As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Gates brings a statewide and regional reputation to Ascension St. Mary’s to care for some of the most complicated spinal cases. His special interests include comprehensive spinal surgery, degenerative disc/ cervical disc arthroplasty, minimally invasive spinal surgery and kyphoplasty. He completed a Fellowship in Comprehensive Spine Surgery from Stanford University Medical Center and a residency in Neurological Surgery from Michigan State University- Garden City Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience from Central Michigan University. Dr. Gates is an American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Fellow, a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Michigan Association of Neurological Surgeons, and Ascension Medical Group.
