Clinical Trials & Research

FNI and St. Mary's of Michigan staff participate in clinical trials for new medications, treatments and devices as well as helping to discover new ways to manage and treat neurological disorders.
 
FNI participates in clinical research trials for brain cancer, multiple sclerosis, degenerative spine disease, stroke, and head injury.
 
Current Studies:
 
SyNAPSe® : A randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled phase 3 study to investigate the efficacy and safety of progesterone in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). The research team at Field Neurosciences Institute (FNI) is participating in an international clinical  research trial for acute closed head injury. Synapse will enroll severe TBI patients with a blunt, closed head injury (non-penetrating) and a GCS between 3 to 8.  This study is taking place in over 22 countries and is seeking to enroll 1,180 patients worldwide.
 
FNI opened the study to enrollment on April 2, 2012 with Dr. E. Malcolm Field as the principal investigator.
