Prevention Programs are a Key Component of the Mission of Field Neurosciences Institute. FNI sponsors prevention programs aimed at the community, designed to help them practice the most effective form of medicine - prevention.

Think First
Brain and spinal cord injuries are the leading killer of young people, taking the lives of more than 22,000 children under the age of 20 each year. In order to address these distressing statistics, FNI sponsors Think First, an award winning public education effort targeting this high-risk age group. The mission of the National ThinkFirst Injury Prevention Foundation is to prevent brain, spinal cord and other traumatic injuries through the education of individuals, community leaders and the creators of public policy. FNI's ThinkFirst programs include ThinkFirst for Kids (2nd-4th grades), ThinkFirst for Teens (6th-12th grades), and Buckle Your Brain (a comprehensive helmet safety program).

Childhood Lead Program
FNI participates in a childhood lead poisoning testing program together with the Michigan Department of Community Health. FNI tests the child's lead level by performing a finger stick. The blood sample is sent to MDCH in Lansing. FNI reports the child's test results and recommends an appropriate follow up examination, consultation, and environmental evaluation.

Stroke Prevention
Stroke is one of the most common, serious, and expensive diseases currently plaguing our country. In line with FNI's commitment to stroke prevention FNI conducts community stroke screenings that test patients cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressures.
